As the recruitment officer at Village n Life, Candice Davids will be one of the first people you come into contact with at the company and we decided to have a quick catch up with her, to see what it’s like working at Village n Life, the culture and the opportunities available.
VNL: Candice, firstly, how did you find yourself at Village n Life?
Candice: Well I think we’ve actually come a long way. I worked for another company in De Waterkant and VNL were present in the area. In fact they were the competition! So I’ve always known about Village n Life since the early 2000’s. So when I a saw vacancy being advertised for the role that I now have as Recruitment Officer, I thought, you know what, I’m going to apply and now here I am, I’m now working for Village n Life.
VNL: So it’s a long dream come true then?
Candice: I think it definitely is, because when I was first introduced to Village n Life, their brand presence was so strong in the area at the time. Their staff just had this aura about them, you could tell that they were proud of the company that they worked for and they just created this desire to want to work for them, you know, that Village n Life is the place you should be, that’s where you know you’ve made it. So yes you can actually say it is a dream come true.
VNL: So that energy the staff give off attracts people to Village n Life?
Candice: I would say yes because the staff represent the business or any company for that matter, and they say in advertising that word of mouth is the most effective. So when you see the people who work for the company out there representing them, then that already tells you a lot about the company. And people show passion and they show that they love what they do and love the company that they work for and that gives you a good impression and that tells you where you should be. So yes I definitely would say that the staff is what makes the company as well.
VNL: What are you most excited about coming into the role?
Candice: Definitely the fact that the company is still around after so long and it has grown over the years. I know that me working for the company now, that there are definitely growth opportunities for me. Village n Life is definitely like no other, when you work here, you can’t compare it to any other company because it’s just so different. So coming into the role I’m excited because I know it’s going to be exciting, there’s going to be new challenges and that’s what it’s all about. You have to wake up in the morning and go ‘Yes, I’m going to work!’ This is what it’s all about for me.
VNL: You recruit for a variety of roles within the company, what makes it so exciting to be a part of the group?
Candice: It definitely is the wide variety of roles that we have available. There is a lot of growth in the company and everyone moves up into the next step of their career at Village n Life so a new role will always open up and that’s what it is, there’s lots of vacancies available because everybody has moved onto the next step and there’s a little bit of everything for everybody, be it finance, spa and beauty, restaurants, back office…there’s a vacancy for everybody.
VNL: How have you felt working with the staff at Village n Life?
Candice: I would say, it’s a circus, but in a good way! You know when you have over 600 staff members there are so many different personalities and so many different characters, it’s never a dull moment. Again, I would say that coming to work in the mornings is an absolute pleasure because I never know what’s going to happen. It’s never the same, it’s never routine. It’s definitely something different every single day. And the staff here have been very welcoming and accommodating and helpful. I didn’t walk in here going ‘I don’t know if I can do this and what if they don’t like me’ Everyone just made me feel so at home and I think that’s important. Everybody here is like family, the culture of the company is absolutely amazing and I would recommend that if you have an opportunity to work for Village n Life then you should take it.
VNL: Candice, thanks for your time today.
Candice: It’s a pleasure.
