In the Village n Life group we realise the importance of taking full care of our full complement of staff in order for them to perform at their best, enjoy their work and work with passion in the hospitality industry. When it comes to our canteen, we take into account all levels of staff at Village n Life.
The way our canteen works is that we have two different levels of pricing, with junior level staff enjoying reduced prices compared to management level staff.
To draw an example, if junior level staff are paying R17 for a full meal (Which is still less than anywhere else they would be able to buy the same meal) management would then pay 20% or 30% more than that to subsidise the junior level staff meals.
Anything that we don’t prepare ourselves and that you can buy at a shop, we will always have our prices lower for all levels of staff than what they would be able to buy at Pick n Pay. Again, for any items not prepared by us, our junior level staff will receive lower rates.
While The Bay Hotel staff make full use of the canteen, staff from the various Village n Life properties in Camps Bay are also welcome, and in this way most of the Village n Life staff in Camps Bay make use of the canteen situated in The Bay Hotel. It’s a vital ingredient to the company and one that all members of staff make use of on a daily basis.
We have also invited selected individuals and teams who help out in the community to enjoy their meals with us at the same great rates that our management pay.
These community groups include the SA Police Service, Bay Response and anyone we identify as essential to helping the local community.
The staff canteen, while definitely not intended to run at a loss, is however not run to make a profit, it is designed to break even and provide a great service to the staff and helping members of our community.
The kitchen is run to the same exacting standards as any front of house dining area in terms of hygiene, food quality and standards and it is something we will never compromise on. Walking through the canteen on a daily basis you will see every level of staff, from junior to management, enjoying great meals and spending time together.
It’s just way in which we believe in doing business, to not only support and help our staff out, but also those vital community members that make the area the amazing place it is.
